GIFA type of computer picture file. Short for "Graphic Interchange Format". GIF files are graphics or pictures, often used on Web pages. Because GIF files contain a maximum of 256 colors, this file format is ideal for simple graphics with minimal shading or color variation such as logos or drawings with large sections of the same color. Other types of graphics (especially photographs) are better suited for the JPG file format (see below). While a Microsoft Word document could end with the suffix ".doc", a GIF file ends in ".gif".

HTMLShort for "Hypertext Markup Language". This is the programming language that is used to create web pages and web sites. "Hypertext" simply refers to text (words) that you can click on that take you to other pages. These are also called "links" or "linked text".

JPGA type of computer picture file. Also sometimes written "JPEG". The name comes from the Joint Photographic Experts Group who created the file format standard. Many of the photo images you see on web pages are JPG images. Normally photos are quite large in file size. The JPG standard compresses their size to make images load faster while still keeping the quality of the image fairly high. A JPG file ends in".jpg".

LogoA recognizable company symbol, word or design. Logos create an identity for a company. When people see your company logo they can instantly recognize products that have been made by you. A good logo creates a favorable impression on the viewer and is a mark of quality services or products. A bad or amateurish logo communicates an unprofessional or disorganized company.

PDFShort for "Portable Document Format". A PDF is a computer file saved in Adobe Acrobat format that can be viewed on Windows, Macintosh and Unix computers as long as you have the free Adobe Reader software available for download at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. We will often send design samples of brochures or other artwork to you in PDF format so you can view it on your computer and print out to review your design project.
